Blood Orange Cosmopolitan

Girl’s night!!

That’s what brought this little bit of heaven to my attention.  One friend, P, mentioned it, and along with K, we decided it was up to us to make sure this thing lived up to the hype.

Oh my.  It was wonderful!  A cold, refreshing juice drink for big girls!  After some digging, I found the ingredients listed on the Bonefish website, and then all I had to do was figure out the proportions.  I have to say….figuring out proportions on a yummy drink is a lot more forgiving than doing the same on a baking project….I didn’t have to pour any of my ‘failures’ down the sink and I had lots of volunteers as taste testers!

Blood Orange Cosmopolitan

  • 2  parts vodka
  • 1 part Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur
  • 3 parts Blood Orange juice
  • juice from 1 quarter of a lime

Optional

  • Bar sugar (superfine sugar) (or Caster Sugar)
  1. Place cocktail shaker and glass in freezer for 10 minutes.

  2. If desired, coat rim of cold martini glass with sugar

  3. Add vodka, Solerno and blood orange juice to cocktail shaker with ice.  Squeeze a wedge of lime juice into mixture.  Shake until frost forms on the shaker.

  4. Pour into cold martini glass.

The Solerno liqueur is hard to find.  My liquor store had to order it and it’s pricey.  The fact that they now carry it all the time is in no way related to how often I asked them to order it, I’m sure. 🙂

I think the Solerno it’s worth it, but I also tried this with Patrón Citronge Liqueur and it worked fine.  A bit sharper in taste, but you can add more juice and take care of that if it bothers you.

I found the Blood Orange juice at Fresh Market.  A friend found it frozen at a grocery store.

For one drink, I found that 1 part = 1 oz works well.
